Portmeadow Haiku, 15 October 2011

Red berries, warm sun,
Horses stand in the river.
Indian summer.

Black crow on bare branch.
What does he see when he looks
beyond the river?

At Godstow lock,
scarlet geraniums stand
like infantrymen.

Godstow nunnery.
Cycle leans against stone wall.
Ancient and modern.

Barges. Green, ochre,
burgundy red. Smoke curling
Into the blue sky.

In the allotment,
proletarian leeks flank
orange marigolds.
